You never know what that tug at the end of the rod tip means! I’ve seen small Chinook salmon smash the line hard enough to pop the clip off the deep line. I have also seen a 30lb plus fish touch the line soft enough to be mistaken for nothing at all until out of curiosity, you snap the line off the clip yourself only to see it tear off 250 feet before slowing down. Each fish does its own thing and each one is a thrill to bring to the boat. They fight good, look good and taste good. It’s why we fish for them and consider them to be the “Kings” of salmon. It’s also why 5 percent of every fishing charter goes back into salmon enhancement programs through the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
While many species of fish such as Lingcod and other species of ground fish (rock cod) are closed during this time, the Chinook Fishery remains open. Catch limit is 2 per angler with a total possession (multiple day trips) of 4 per angler. Five percent of each charter goes back into Salmon enhancement programs through the Pacific Salmon Foundation

The thrill of the catch along with the awareness you are investing in the future of salmon fishing in British Columbia! Due to conservation efforts, the Chinook fishery closes from April 1st to July 15th. During this time, we may still fish for Chinook, but it is on a catch and release basis only. To encourage anglers to enjoy what is historically a very large migration of fish through Nanaimo waters from April 15th to May 31st, Reel Time Fishing Charters & Marine Tours guarantees that 5% of each trip goes back into Chinook salmon restoration projects through the Pacific Salmon Foundation.
Openings for the 2022 fishing season are as follows:
