Nanaimo Fishing Report from Reel Time Fishing Charters

Fish in the Box :)
After a few charters this season, we finally landed a nice keeper! This fish was caught a little shallower than I expected, around the 100 ft mark. Chinook caught in Nanaimo waters have been far and few between so far. However, before landing this fish, we did hook into three others that were on for a few moments and then off. Trips earlier this past weekend produced a few smaller fish that were released as well as a few others that managed to out-smart us (after loosing the 3rd fish, I thought I’d better check to see if I actually had good hooks on my line–we did!).

What to use, how deep and where to try:
We’ve had all our action on basically two baits, green, white and black hootchies and an army truck needle fish hootchie. We’ve been hooking fish in around the 100 to 120 ft marker (and we’ve tried deeper too…, up to 150 ft) Most of the fish we hooked into over the past few day were just off of Neck Point in the deeper water (300-500 ft range). The fish we landed today was out a little further and deeper (600 ft mark) and was caught on the edge of the second large hump just north of the fingers. Actually, we marked a lot of bait just north of the second hump and had a least 3 strikes before landing this one.

It won’t be long before these fish start showing up in larger numbers. Good luck to all of you out there. If you are on the water and you see our Hourston 23, feel free to call us at 250 667 6950 (and if you see us out there and start slaying fish, please call us too). If you want to get out on the water and don’t have a boat, give us a call. Reel Time Fishing Charters in Nanaimo is open for business and we’re affordable and fun 🙂 All the best!
