Phenomenal Fishing in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island: Reel Time Fishing Report, May 16, 2017

Phenomenal Fishing in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island: Reel Time Fishing Report, May 16, 2017

Salmon fishing in Nanaimo continues to surpass anything I have ever seen in past years.  Large numbers and lately, some very large fish.  This morning (Tuesday May 16), we had our limit of 4 fish within one hour, the smallest weighing 13 lbs, the largest weighing 16 lbs.  These fish seem to be a little deeper than earlier runs we’ve seen moving past in the previous weeks.  But they are just as clean, healthy, and strong as before.  The other interesting feature is the amount of White Chinook or Fraser Fish.  In this mornings catch, 2 of the 4 fish we landed where whites!  With the long weekend just around the corner, I would encourage any angler with a boat to get out in front of the Five Fingers.  Fish with small 3 inch spoons such as “Killer McGee” or the “Kitchen  Sink” dropping your bait to the 155–185 depth on a 15lb  cannon ball.  If you don’t have means to a boat and would like to get out there, give us a call.  For $340.00 CAD, you will most likely come back with your money’s worth of fish if not more.  In any case, have fun, keep safe and fish sustainably (when you get you fish, call it a day rather than catching and releasing).

All the best
