Ucluelet Fishing Season Ends: 2014

Our First Full Fishing Season Comes to an End 🙁

DSC_0463

Well, here we are, Labor Day Long Weekend.  I’d like to thank all of you who have been a part of Reel Time Fishing Charters first full operational year in Ucluelet.  It was great to have all of you aboard whether you followed our blog posts or whether you booked a trip with us.

For me as a guide, I’d have to say that in all the years  I have fished the waters of Ucluelet (whether guiding or recreationally), this was one of the more challenging years.  Places that held fish or ways of fishing that produced fish one day suddenly turned off and anglers and guides where left searching for new places and techniques.  Every day was a new day, and often a new challenge.  So much for the pre-year hype that this was going to be a stellar year!  The large numbers of large salmon never really materialized, at least not off the shores of Ucluelet.  Though the overall size was up, particularly near in August, the numbers were certainly down.

What will next year bring?  Who knows.  All I can say is that most of us in Ucluelet will remember 2014 as a year where water temperatures where up, large schools of bait fish were down, there were hardly any whales, and the prediction of a banner year for Chinook never materialized.  Let’s hope that 2015 proves to be better.

Again, thanks for being a part of Reel Time Fishing Charters in Ucluelet for the 2014 season.  Stay tuned as I post Nanaimo winter Spring reports.  We look forward to hearing from you one way or the other, i.e., to book a trip, follow our blogs, or to inform us of where the fish are biting in other places of this grand place many of us call home, Vancouver Island, BC.  All the best.

PS: Book a trip with Reel Time Fishing Charters before December 31st and we will honor this years prices 🙂
