Ucluelet Fishing Charters–Report from Reel Time Fishing Charters

Ucluelet Fishing Report: Salmon & Halibut

DSC_0415

Well, it’s been of a week of slugging it out on the high seas off the shores of Ucluelet.  Windy/waving conditions mixed with fog has been the story regarding the weather.  For all of you planning to fish the shores of Bamfield, Ucluelet, or Tofino this summer, come prepared for foggy/wet weather and wavy conditions (in other words, take something for sea-sickness…, there are a lot of people getting sick out there).

Regarding fishing, it has been a challenging year.  Many of the banks are either hard to get to (Big Bank for example), or many of them are not producing the way the have in the past. Long Beach bank continues to be the place for many chartered guides and other anglers.  Florencia (a small island by Wya Point) has been producing some big fish but they are definitely hard to come by.  The mouth of the channel in Ucluelet is producing but not many large fish are coming from there.  The Red Can can have it’s moments as well.  The picture I’ve attached are of some fish I picked up with a few clients a few days ago. Again, it can be a hit and miss there too.

Halibut fishing has been fairly good on Long Beach and the Inside Light House bank.  Look for the humps on the west side of these banks and anchor or drift off these banks slowly with power bait, salmon bellies or squid as bait.

If you ever have any questions about the fishing conditions out of Ucluelet, feel free to call me (Turk) at Reel Time Fishing Charters.  My phone number is 250 667 6950.  To all of you fishing enthusiasts heading to the west coast of Vancouver Island this year, be safe, keep your lines tight, fish sustainably, and have fun.
