Ucluelet Fishing: Reel Time Fishing Charters

Another interesting week on the waters off the shores of Ucluelet.  The good news is that finally, some of the banks are beginning to produce some good fish in terms of number and size.  This past Saturday and Sunday (July 26 and 27), the weather finally let up allowing many guides to get off shore to places like the Big Bank.  And what beautiful days they were, sunshine, calm waters, and lots of yahoo’s as fish after fish were being landed.  There were many boats a little east of the “Egg” where Coho and Chinook were plentiful.  Going deeper also produced many hali’s of good size.  Other banks such as Long Beach are still producing with greater numbers of fish showing up in many places there as well.  Trolling close to the bottom is a favorite since it can produce both Chinook and Halibut.  My suggestion if you are going to fish this way is to not drag the bottom but find the bottom and then bring the ball up 5 feet or so as to not disturb or move the halibut out of the way of your bait.

Inside, the Red Can, Little Beach, and Florencia continue to produce some large fish (20lb +).  I managed to pull in a couple of nice fish just a little west of the Red Can (picture included) at 120 ft with a small 3 1/2 spoon (although green and white hootchies will produce as well).  Florencia is best fished jigging with fresh or live squid close to the kelp beds.

To book an August charter (limited space now as the calendar is almost full) or for more info on whats going on in Ucluelet, feel free to contact me at 250 667 6950.  Otherwise, be safe, fish sustainably, keep the rod tips up and tight, and all the best to all to all of you anglers from Reel Time Fishing Charters.
