Ucluelet Fishing Report from Reel Time Fishing Charters: August 2014
Large fish but low numbers. That’s probably the report you’d hear from fishing enthusiasts and guides alike off the shores of Ucluelet. The good news is that finally, bait is beginning to show up in places such as the South Bank and Outside Lighthouse Bank (and maybe a few other banks as well). My guest and I were finally treated to a whale sighting…, only the second one this year but it too confirms that bait is finally moved in. The picture of this fish is one that we caught on the southern tip of the South Bank near the addipose. It, like many others are starting to be caught closer to the top (70-90 ft) although plugs are beginning to be more effective trolling them a little deeper and faster. Halibut too are showing up in larger numbers off many of the banks, some big ones too :). Again, the key for hooking a larger hali is to use baited hooks and drift slowly off some of the banks or simply anchor and wait. For any other up to date fishing reports, please don’t hesitate to call us at Reel Time Fishing Charters (250 667 6950). I am on the water pretty much every day and would love to hear from you. In the meantime, safe boating, lines tight, and fish sustainably. Cheers
